These are Doctoral Degrees gained by thesis, published works, viva voce and rigorous examination; some others are work based. Here, you become a relevant and impacting part of a community of scholars when you undertake a research degree. This exposes you to the practical aspects of studies whereby you interact with very experienced award-winning researchers, academics and budding student scholars.
In another vein, the WVU also awards higher doctorates to already established academics in recognition of a substantial body of original research undertaken over the course of many years. The applicant personally undertakes and submits a collection of previously published work in a peer-reviewed context and/or as specialist textbooks and pays just an examination fee. An HD Evaluation Committee is immediately put together by the University, drawn from academics and industry of both within and outside the University Community, reviews the submitted work for constructive and erudite evaluation and submits a report on the eligibility of the applicant and recommends to the Governing Council whether the award is merited, having satisfied the laid down requirements in that regard by the University.
Higher doctorates are also awarded as honorary degrees, quite distinctly from the equivalent degrees earned by presenting a body of work for review. These are referred to as honoris causa.
